Changing Over

I'm gonna keep this one short but just wanna say that I'm really happy to see people getting out and climbing as fall approaches. Sounds like Sweaty, Sam, Remo, Ian and Katie had a great day up on the East Bluff yesterday. Katie was able to finish off Fat Pants, which looks really incredible, and Sweaty was able to do Rail Gun.

Sweaty also climbs until he is bleeding it seems. Katie said that he was bleeding on all four fingers and "still looking for other stuff to try". Amazing. I'm glad you were able to get out bud. Sad I couldn't be up there with you though.

On a more personal note, I have made a rather big change personally that I'll be able to reveal officially in the near future. Sorry for the tease but suffice it to say that describing me as happy right now would be a massive understatement. More to come on that.

In the mean time here's a video from our day out at Governor Dodge last Sunday. We had an unexpectedly great time doing moderates none of us had ever tried. It was great.

  1. "Big change"?!?!? You haven't decided to rope up did you? That would be silly.

Whats the location of that first problem in the vid?

  2. Isn't that the Venom / H. Arete block?

  3. Yep, it's the left arete of the Venom boulder. There was a problem on MP that eliminated the arete but that seemed stupid so we did it with the arete and it was fun. Worth doing and a nice little warmup.

  4. Good for you Steve! Change is usually a good thing.
Nice job Katie and Sweaty(well nice job on the bloody tips)! Both of those problems are super cool, and everyone should go try them. Props to Ian for finding some quality lines. Looks like we need to round up a trip to Sawmill! So sick!:)

  5. Congrats Gnar on your 'change'. Thanks again to Katie and Ian for hanging out and showing me around. We also sent 'Tommy the Toad' named after Katie's best friend hiding in the crack. That is a really super, juggy warm up. Perhaps the best line of the day was when going back up the stairs:

Katie: I am tired of these stairs.
Ian: At least it's good exercise.
Katie: All I want to do is eat cake and climb. I DO NOT WANT TO EXERCISE!

Rail Gun was really good. I used man beta not silly girl beta. Should have done it faster but couldnt keep my big ass off the rock behind you on when I cut feet.

Tried the flatiron for the first time. That little thing is tricky

Was getting tired by the time we tried Fat Pants. And god is that thing really an awesome problem 2nd try and most tries after that i got up to the hamhock thing but each time my arms were more and more pumped. Can't wait to get back on it next time around.

Also, as the official motto maker for this wonderful sight, I think it needs to be changed to 'I just want to eat cake and climb' and then in a week or two should be changed to 'I DON'T WANT TO EXERCISE!'

    that is all.

  8. Katie: it's a bit too late for that now. Although, I guess you could take a couple of nasty falls climbing and that might take care of it.

  9. no! I just look like that from eating all the cake and not exercising!!!!!

  14. this is kind of a let down. just yesterday katie was worried that she'd been impregnated by the rock and was going to have a half purple quartzite baby. Kind of dissapointed to know that it wont be purple and it will only be half gnar. Super weak.

  15. So whats up with Nic posting on his blog then taking it down. Hmmm.....

Anyway congrats Steve!! Sweaty I would have come out last night with you guys but our pattern over the last 3-4 years has only been to get out climbing together once per year. So I had to pass. See you in 2012 buddy. ce

  16. Chris, i know how you feel. i already had my sweaty intake for the year and it was almost too much. no way i could handle another day.

  17. Hell, sweaty and I haven't climbed in the same spot since a random comp in 2007 I think. I'm still needing a break...

  18. That's fine I dont need you guys. Me and Katie talked about taking our relationship to the next level which would be being actual friends. And I have a feeling me and Ian are almost ready to make that leap as well, which gives me 2 other people that I can climb with once a year. I have so many options its silly.
